We currently have an open position for a Senior Support Specialist/Application Developer
Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000
Description
You will be part of a demanding, dynamic team that is responsible for supporting 20+ content management, collaboration, workflow, and security applications used by more than 30,000 people. Many of these applications involve one or more of the following technologies: OpenText eDOCS DM, SQL, SharePoint 2007/2010, webMethods, Workshare Professional, Lombardi Teamworks, Microsoft Project Server, Microsoft Office 2003/2007/2010, IIS, SQL Server Reporting Services, C#, VBScript, JavaScript, and others.
You will start out by focusing on one or two applications, but will quickly get introduced to many more. You will be on-call initially (usually a week at a time, every month) for a short period of time while you ramp up. While on-call, you will carry a pager and address pages (trouble tickets) from users. Immediately following your time on-call, you will be the backup on-call, working east coast hours (6AM – 3PM), addressing help requests and resolving any issues that surface in the group’s mailbox.
When not on-call or backup on-call, you will work with and lead junior teammates on solving major issues and maintenance projects. You will also be taken out of the on-call/backup on-call rotation as you are able to handle other work (enhancement and project work). If you choose to specialize in application development, you will still be required to support the code you write (as well as a lot of code you have not written). If you choose to specialize as a senior support specialist, you will be expected to be able to read and troubleshoot code. Either path you choose, you will work on developing your leadership and mentoring abilities. You will also have the opportunity to increase your knowledge with other applications and programming languages that align with the business solution for the client.
On this career path, one can get deep into their position – learning more applications to support or developing more systems, or one can branch out, in which case additional duties will be introduced that will be tailored to those career goals. Such careers goals may include, but are not limited to:
- Systems administrator (performing administrative and operating functions for a technology platform, such as SharePoint)
- Project lead (architecting new solutions to meet user needs and leading a team)
- Manager (overseeing a team and working with team members to help fulfill the teams’ goal of system support and stability)
This position offers a great opportunity for growth and career advancement with commensurate pay increases for those who learn quickly, sweat the details, take ownership of their projects, and do whatever is needed to get the job done.
